ABOUT ME
NEELU (NIKKI) KAUR
TRANSLATOR
EDITOR & PROOFREADER
INTERPRETER
TUTOR
COPYWRITER
TRANSCREATION PROVIDER

I am an Indian-Australian (native English speaker) who lived and worked in Japan for 13 years, which enabled me to develop a sound knowledge of its language and culture/customs.
I have a Master of Arts in Japanese Interpreting and Translation from the University of Queensland (ranked 2nd in the world for translating/interpreting courses), NAATI certification in Japanese to English translation, and the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) Level 1 qualification.
My policy as a translator is to only accept work that I can competently, accurately and efficiently complete within the required deadline. I am able to research a variety of topics effectively and efficiently using reliable internet sources.
Since moving back to Australia in July 2012, I have been primarily working as a full-time freelance Japanese to English translator, editor and proofreader with several translation agencies in Japan, from which I receive work on a fairly regular basis.
I am also a trained Japanese to English/English to Japanese interpreter (consecutive and simultaneous), but I prefer to do translation work for business and lifestyle reasons.
Recently, I have started freelance copywriting work, and I am also self-studying and acquiring skills in content creation, SEO optimisation and digital marketing.
Additionally, I am self-studying the TRADOS SDL Machine Translation Post Editing (MTPE) Course, as another skill and service to offer clients.
My specialty areas in terms of experience and skills in translation are primarily:
-
business & finance
-
marketing & PR
-
tourism & travel
-
culture & the arts
-
health & wellbeing
-
the environment
-
websites & localisation
-
government documents
-
medicine & pharmaceutics (general)
-
ICT & social media
-
certified translations of documents
-
general documents, etc.
I am passionate about health and well-being on all levels, and regularly practice meditation, yoga, Pilates, reiki (Level 1), and aromatherapy.
I recently acquired a certificate in Aromatherapy and the Psyche from the Australian College of Aromatherapy.
I have been studying Japanese calligraphy for over five years, and I have attained Pre-Second Grade of the Japanese Calligraphy Test run by the Japanese Calligraphy Education Federation.
I have also been doing tarot and oracle card readings (for myself) since my early 20s. I use my vast collection of these cards with other modalities of healing, such as those above, to try and achieve mental, emotional and spiritual balance in my life.
I believe my interests in health and well being help me to maintain a balanced mind and body, which benefits my work by improved concentration and creativity,
